Christmas Calories

X’mas & New Years is the time for retrospection.Usually resolutions that I break massively outnumber the ones that survive & 2011 was no different.  Case in point : 2 resolutions which were pretty much at logger heads with each other the entire year . One -  Whatever it may be I’m going to be(or at least pretend to be ) happy –so bring on the friends, the wine , the fun and good food.  Two -  Lose extra  pounds to fit into the LBD I chanced upon last year.  And I don't have to tell you guys that which one survived :-) Now that the damage was done, I decided to welcome this long Xmas weekend with some connoisseurs of food at my place . Was prepared to spend a tense weekend ,where I knew every bit of my dish was to be scrutinised for extra spice, over/under cooking, size of the cut dry fruits or the presentation of each dish on the table. However I think I played smart and placed the ball firmly in their court by making them the mentors....

For the love of Dosa

Image
What  lengths can you go to have a Dosa ..Some of you might say that you probably have ended up marrying a South-Indian for the love of it.. In my defence Ill not deny it, but then I do love them both equally. “ Ooyiru kudakalaan sir “ Well the romance (with Dosa) started quite early. Definitely Port Blair’, 1988 where Annapurna restaurant in Aberdeen market would offer a Dosa for just 5 Rs which we inevitably had whenever we could find an excuse for. This was just the beginning of the Dosa story where the cast included some south Indian Naval officer’s wives/Aunties, beautiful moms of lovely South Indian friends, my Nilgiri hill Girl friends in Bangalore Sports Camp, Nuway cafe in Kurukshetra, East Ham joints in London and recently added Luton A1-Dosa.                                                         Image source :  www.indianfo...

Pahadon wali...Lady from the Mountains

When I started writing this article I thought I’ll introduce you to an un explored yet calm and serene  part of India , to the place where I belong, Garhwal.. It turns out that I myself need to do a bit of exploring first, so let me hold on to that for some time. Never have been much fan of Garhwali songs other than when they are played at marriage ceremonies perhaps where we can derive the pleasure of watching our oldies dance, only when you play these tunes , for they not understand  who is Pappu and why he can’t dance.. All garhwalis can dance. Period. My fav Garhwali song-  Bedu Paako Baarah Maasa   - You can find many versions of this ...however I thought the one with dance should probably be the best.  The famous Coco Cola Advt-pahadi  -had Aamir khan as Pahadi but many confused it for a Nepali perhaps. Watch it one more time & this time  you’ ll know the connection. Glad that Aamir picked up the tune quite well. Although you may not spo...

Political Fashion

Image
A day well started.. and well ended as well I guess for today I'm not preparing the dinner :-)  ** It appears that a certain Mr Narendra Modi caused quite an uproar in the political circles by not accepting a scarf-skullcap. Only if he knew how it can be used.. Narendra ji , please pass it over to us and we shall gladly accept it.  I'm happy that  now I  know  that one of these types is called Keffiyeh  Narendra ji -  Narendra Modi in denial. In the western circles I do find the local papers beaming with news & photographs of well dressed female politicians.. however when I googled for Indians for the same I was disappointed to find none. The first name that  would come across instantly may be Priyanka but then she isn't a politiçian in a true sense ,isn't it and I would rather keep actresses-turned-politicians out of this list for it wont be fair for others... what say ???.. lemme know what do you guys think... whose style is worth digging ...

On a Naughty Sunday ...

There are days when I tell my husband  that "I'm feeling Intelligent today"..Did it sound funny to you or has that ever happened to you as well...Do lemme know for I''ll feel comforted that I'm not as weird as I think I am . I know it sounds stupid but these are days when I pick up one of a high funda novel , try to read about whats going on in world politically..  Not my cup of tea on a normal day :-) Well, today wasn't one of those days but one which is just the opposite. Some times I do take  inspiration in a funny way which allows me to go back few years or months of my life.. Got hold of  a black skirt gifted to me by one of my closest - Mausi. She has been an inspiration for pretty much everything .But as the mood demanded naughtiness so I ended up teaming it with some floral girls top & had my bit of fun
